Roving Signs
Traditional signwriting studio based in Cornwall, UK
Specialising in hand-painted signs, reverse-glass gilding, and gold leaf work for businesses, heritage projects, vehicles, exhibitions, and events.
Drawing on traditional techniques and a careful approach to design, I create bespoke work for shopfronts, vehicles, boats, heritage projects, exhibitions, weddings, events & more. Each commission is individually designed and hand-painted, with close attention given to lettering, composition, colour, and the character of its surroundings.
Whether working with an established brand identity or developing a new design, the aim is always the same: to create distinctive, durable work that feels at home in its environment and stands the test of time.
Hello!
CrAFTMANSHIP & TRAINING
Between 2024 and 2026, I spent two years in Australia training with retired master signwriter John Craddock of Fine Handmade Signs, learning through the same apprenticeship-style approach he used when teaching at Melbourne's trade school. With formal signwriting courses now largely a thing of the past, this kind of one-to-one tuition has become increasingly rare. Access to a learning style that resembled the traditional curriculum provided an exceptional depth of knowledge difficult to gain from self-teaching.
For me, traditional signwriting is more than producing beautiful signs. I am committed to preserving the craft itself—its techniques, traditions, and the way knowledge is passed from one generation of signwriters to the next. Learning through a rare apprenticeship-style approach has shaped how I work today, and I see every commission as a small contribution to keeping this heritage alive for the future, not simply as another job completed.
Alongside this, I have been awarded funded professional development grants and support to receive individual mentoring from other signwriters, and to undertake specialist reverse glass gilding training in one of the craft's most respected traditional techniques.
These experiences continue to shape my work today, combining time-honoured craftsmanship with careful attention to detail in every commission.
I am grateful to have learned from several industry experts, ensuring the work I produce is of the highest standard.
